June Smith’s family is from Alice Springs, her mother was born at Ntaria (Hermannsburg) and father at Undoolya Station. June grew up and attended school in Alice Springs, and first came to Ltyentye Apurte community when it was Santa Teresa mission. June worked at the school, teaching the pre-school children, and from her position there helped to develop an arts group with other women on the community, in a room at the school. June started work at the Keringke Art Centre in 1987 when the group began building the art centre. She has been one of the very strong women for the art centre and has held the position of Chair for several terms.
