Biography
Leonie was born at Ltyentye Apurte and has lived with her family here all her life. The family spent a little while in
Alice Springs, where Leonie began to paint and sell her canvas to tourists. The family returned to Ltyentye Apurte
and Leonie has started to paint again, bringing her work to Keringke. Leonie's family are famous for their artistic
talents, and many of them produce fine art work for Keringke.
Leonie has been painting at home and has learnt from her sisters Marie and Camilla who have worked for Keringke
for many years. Leonie has been innovative and combined bush tucker designs with Keringke style, producing very
attractive paintings with both traditional and contemporary elements in her style. The bush fruit motief is one that
Leonie has developed which is bringing together the traditional Keringke style of dot and color with a more
European traditional stlyle of realism.
A collection of wild fruit including orange, passionfruit, berries and bannana is displayed amongst the beautifully
painted dot work. The fruits are all avbailable seasonally at Ltyentye Apurte, and Leonie joins others to harvest and
use them. They appear in Eastern Arrernte lands after the summer rain has fallen (February).
